Building a Lego flagship
Today I spent a big chunk of the day putting together my new Lego Imperial Flagship:

It’s not quite half finished, but I am done for today. I could spend all weekend building this thing. It’s great! It’s a lot of fun to put together. The box was labeled “Ages 14+” — which I thought was a little surprising because the other ship, Brickbeard’s Bounty, was “Ages 6-12″ — but this one is actually a lot harder. It’s mostly because they didn’t number the bags, so you have to hunt for the pieces more, but it’s also really detailed. You can’t really see much of the detail here, but maybe I’ll post later with a finished picture.
I think it’s easier in some ways for an adult to put together one of these sets, but being an adult building one of these things brings its own hazards. I have Lego fingers (sore fingertips), my back is stiff, and my knee was already hurt (mostly recovered!) and I managed to hurt it a little more, but nothing too bad. Adults are just not meant to squat on the ground like that. Sitting cross-legged is the least painful, but it still doesn’t feel good. I think I need to find something like a little footstool to sit on. Maybe the container of fresh cat litter would be low enough. But it was definitely not this painful to sit on the floor for a few hours when I was a kid.
Anyway, I’ve got big plans after it’s finished. I thought that maybe the pirates would attack the ship right away, but I think maybe the imperials will just have a commissioning and peaceful first voyage. Then they will fight some ninjas, and win.
